Researchers develop new films with high mechanical strength and barrier properties thanks to bacteria

From two biopolymers of bacterial origin. On the one hand, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) and on the other bacterial cellulose. It has been possible to introduce PHA particles directly into the cellulose matrix.

These "bioplasticized" films have a Young's modulus 4 times higher than PET films and 3 times less permeability to oxygen.
