The use of recycled PET and other plastic materials for their use in food packaging has been sped up in Spain.

It has been amended the Royal Decree 846/2011 that establishes in Spain the conditions that raw materials base on recycled polymeric materials intended to come into contact with food have to accomplish. Specifically, the article No 2 has been amended for increasing the commercialisation and use of PET and other recycled plastic materials obtained in Spain provided that the following conditions are fulfilled:
a) EFSA has emitted a positive opinion about the recycling process.
b) The head of the recycling process has notified to the competent health authorities the beginning of the material production to facilitate its control.
c) The head of the recycling process guarantees that PET or other plastic material has been manufactured following the manufacturing conditions provided in the EFSA opinion.
d) Users of packages made of recycled PET or other plastic materials guarantee that uses evaluated by EFSA are fulfilled. |
