Scientifics from University of Cadiz (Spain) point out that the Mediterranean Sea is the sixth region of plastic waste accumulation.

Through the work “Plastic accumulation in the Mediterranean Sea” it has been possible to determine the plastic concentration along Mediterranean area, from Straits of Gibraltar to Cyprus, which has amounts of floating plastic wastes comparable to those measured in the five subtropical ocean gyres. Moreover, one of the authors of the work explains that “it has been found plastics in 100% of the sampled sites, with an average density of plastic of 1 item per 4 m2. |
