Buyers resist planned price hikes in October
11/30/2011

European standard thermoplastic prices were largely unchanged in October against September levels as key feedstock costs were mostly stable.

Producers called for higher prices, or in the case of polystyrene, tried to limit the price reduction, in order to boost their margins. Their plans were however strongly resisted by buyers. In view of the general weakness in demand and much improved supply position, sellers were forced to at least accept prices that match the monomer cost development.

As crude oil prices and spot feedstock costs edged higher in October, polymer prices could rise in November.
