Researchers describe a new electrochemical recycling method
for PET with excellent yields 11/12/2021
It involves the use of a new nickel and cobalt catalyst on nickel foam. Chain break at 60 ºC, with yields of 97%.
Potassium hydroxide participates. The ethylene glycol (EG) component of PET is difficult to recover, so it oxidizes to diformate and hydrogen.
For every kilo of residual PET, 818.5 grams of terephthalic are generated. Impurities are removed by simple filtration. Electrolysis could be done with renewable energy. |
