EPS fish boxes can be recycled into new PS packaging for food contact applications

The consortium formed by the companies Cicloplast, Anape, Coexpan, El Corte Inglés and Total Petrochemicals Ibérica, presented the results of the Life EPS-SURE project, after three years of research they have managed to transform expanded polystyrene (EPS) boxes into new packaging PS suitable for food contact, such as yogurt packaging, thanks to an innovative recycling process.
The main conclusion is the technical feasibility of the project, which opens the way to new developments and lays the foundation for the authorization and certification of food grade for recycled polystyrene by the European agency EFSA. |
