Italy approves the application of a tax on single-use plastics
02/13/2020

The Government of Italy has approved to establish a single-use plastic tax from July, with a rate of 45 cents per kilo and also includes Tetrapak. In this measure, the Executive expects to raise 1,000 million euros in three years.

The plastic tax will apply to single-use plastics intended to contain, protect, manipulate or deliver goods or food. Compostable and medical are excluded, and apparently also those coming from recycled materials. Additionally, the Executive has approved a tax benefit of 10% for companies dedicated to the production of plastics, to adapt to compostable.
