The active packaging developed by the UPCT extends shelf life of tomatoes and peppers by more than 40%

The active package uses essential oils encapsulated with cyclodextrin, to delay the development of microorganisms that alter the quality of the products, and without altering the smell and taste of the fruits.

The patented packaged is designed to favor exports. Large companies in the agri-food sector, such as Agroponiente and Fruca, have successfully tested these boxes, whose antimicrobial agents and oxidative process inhibitors are activated when products are refrigerated during transport and storage.
